Roulette Strategies – Using Progression Betting Systems

The King of Casino games, Roulette has always been one of the beautiful games. Indeed, Roulette is fast paced and dangerously fun. New players will often start with picking random numbers and playing roulette something like Keno but veteran roulette players will employ progression betting systems to gain an edge over the casino.

Progression betting systems make your betting units dynamic. At the most basic level, by changing the size of your bets you allow yourself to have a winning session without having to beat the house more than 50% of the time. That is, the size of your wins tends to be larger than the size of your losses, so you can have a winning session despite only winning 20% or even 30% of the time. In this way roulette systems players will enjoy more winning sessions than other roulette players.

The two most famous progression betting systems are the Martingale System and the Labouchere System.

Martingale System

The Martingale System is the classic roulette system. At the most basic level, you simply double the size of your bet after losses. So if your previous losing bet was $5, then your next bet is $10. If you lose the $10 bet then your next bet would be $20. If we win the $20 bet, we find ourselves with a net gain of $5 despite only winning one out of three spins. After a win, you go back to your original betting unit and start again.

Labouchere System

The Labouchere System or the Cancellation System, uses series of numbers to determine the size of the next bet. As an example we have the labouchere line

2 3 4 5

In the Labouchere System, your next bet is the sum of the first and last numbers. So using the example above, our next bet is 7 units.

After a loss, you simply add the losing bet size to the end of the labouchere line and continue. So if we lost the 7 unit bet, then our new labouchere line would look like:-

2 3 4 5 7

And our next bet would be 9 units.

After a win, you cross out the first and last numbers and work with the shorter line. So if we won the 9 unit bet, our new labouchere line would be:-

X 3 4 5 X

And our next bet would 8 units.

The beauty of the Labouchere System is that it is a lot more dynamic than the martingale system. The are tricks to keep the progression going endlessly and stay under the table limit. Further, you can control how fast your bet size increase by initially designing the labouchere line to suit your personal gambling style.

Final Note of Progression Betting Systems As a final note, roulette is a game of fun. Progression betting systems are a way to survive marathon roulette sessions and still have a chance of winning. This is great for roulette players. But progression betting systems shouldn’t be expected to be money printing systems. Play roulette for its entertainment value and bet with your head and not over it.
